Jazz Covers Reviews
JAZZ ALBUM COVERS FANS-ALERT! I know there are several books on album art-but this is one you cannot afford to pass by. I also know that it's relatively expensive (at least to me), but you need to see this edition and then you'll understand why I'm so excited. This set combines the separate volumes that originally cost more than this combined edition.
I was REALLY looking forward to this book, and I have to say I felt a little let down. The printing quality, production and price are excellent, but i was disappointed with the covers they chose. The books are organized alphabetically by musician and it seems that they were trying to include as many different musicians as they could rather than choosing the sleeves based on artwork alone. Consequently, many well-known (or simply just BETTER) designs were not included in favor of some other mediocre choices.
I bought this as a gift for my father and he absolutely LOVED it. He's not much of a coffee table book guy, but as soon as he got it he stayed up for hours looking at the album covers and reading the comments/history about each one. The pages are beautiful and includes TWO huge volumes. Great price for two large books.
I don't understand how Taschen publishes anything this size and sells it for so little. For under $50, this is a no-brainer purchase.
My husband & i both love it- and plan to give it as a gift to all our Jazz musician friends
ACTUALLY PRODUCT AND CONTENT IS EXCELLENT. HOWEVER THE CASE THAT THE BOOK IS IN CAME CRACKED AND I SHOULD HAVE SENT IT BACK.
This 2 volume set is just amazing! I love music, photography, and graphic design - this set pretty much sums it all up. (Most) of the standards are there (Coltrane, Davis, Holiday), but the musicians that I've never heard of are just as amazing. The size of each book renders the covers/art work in awesome detail. Even the book binders are really cool as they replicate a stack of albums. Also love the fact sheets and short write-ups of some covers on their photographers, illustrators, and designs.
Taschen does it once again, what a bargain for this incredible book...Highly recommended and a great xmas gift for graphic designers, music lovers, and art book collectors of all ages...
